Virginia Henderson has taught art history at a number of universities before coming to TROY, including the University of Oregon, Wofford College, Auburn University Montgomery, and Auburn University.  She specializes in medieval art and architecture with a particular interest in the role, function, and nature of memory and the image during the Middle Ages.  Her interest in the concept of image and its use extends to other eras as well, especially in American art.  Her work also involves the Gothic Revival of the eighteenth to the early twentieth century.  Dr. Henderson’s research and publications concern Westminster Abbey, and she has presented numerous conference papers across the country on different aspects of her work.
