Dear
District II Visual Art Educator,
The Troy University Department of Art & Design is excited to again host the District II Visual Arts Achievement Program (VAAP) sponsored by the Alabama State Council on the Arts (ASCA). This prestigious competition has a rich tradition and we are looking forward exhibiting your students’ work in the Malone Hall Fine Arts Gallery on the Troy Campus. You should have already received a competition prospectus and entry forms mailed by ASCA in early December. If you did not receive these materials, please contact either Diana Green at ASCA (334) 242-4076 or Larry Percy at (334) 670-3375.
The Awards Ceremony will be held Saturday, March 1st, 2008 in the Malone Gallery and will begin at 1:30 p.m. The faculty of the Department of Art and Design and several guests judges will adjudicate this year’s competition.
This year we are offering three hands-on workshops to be conducted in conjunction with the awards ceremony. The workshops begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude around noon. Lunch is “on your own”. Click on the Workshop icon for workshop descriptions and presenters. Registration information is listed at the bottom of the workshop flyer. If you or your students plan to attend a workshop, please register no later than Monday, February 25th.
We look forward to seeing you at the Malone Gallery either on Friday, February 22nd (8 a.m. – 6 p.m.) or Saturday, February 23rd (8 a.m. – 1 p.m.) for the delivery of students art work. The Troy University Student Art Education Association will be greeting you to check in and inventory work. Student entry forms and school inventory sheets must be filled out and attached properly prior to check in. These forms are located in the back of your 2008 Visual Arts Achievement Program booklet that you should have received from ASCA sometime in November 2007. This must be filled out with all requested information before we can check you in. Please follow directions at the top of each form. Please note the pdf file of labels for student work. Instructions for mounting name tags are in the Labels for Artwork pdf. If you choose to ship your student’s work, we will accept delivery of shipped work anytime the week of February 18th – February 22nd.
IMPORTANT NOTE: We will attempt to post a list of student winners on this website no later than Wednesday, February 27th, 5:00 p.m. Please check the website so that you may make announcements and plans to have students present on Saturday to receive their award. If you have further questions you may email me at lpercy@troy.edu.
