Welcome! The TROY Department of Art and Design has been incubating programs of study for a new breed of artists and designers. In this age of hybrid disciplines, virtual realms and new media, it has become imperative that art and design schools birth innovative methods, experiences and strategies for preparing the artists, designers and educators of tomorrow.

If you have the same sense of anticipation for the future of visual communications as we do, you may be excited to discover our fresh approach to an arts/design education at TROY. At TROY, we are realizing the future. At TROY, your future can be realized.

Cheri Murphy, secretary for the Department of Art and Design was surprised, but nobody else in the department was when she was selected to receive the coveted McKinley Award. The McKinley Award is the highest honor that Troy University gives to a non-faculty staff member. It is presented monthly to an employee who has demonstrated outstanding attitude, innovation and work ethic. The award was established by former Texaco CEO John McKinley in honor of his father, Vergil Parks McKinley, who was a Troy University professor during the early 20th century and was key to the development of the University’s athletic program. Winners of this award receive an engraved clock and a $350 stipend.

Above, Ms. Murphy is shown with Jerry Johnson, Chairman of Department of Art and Design and Chancellor Jack Hawkins, Jr.

Nearly 250 public arts educators, administrators and legislators converged on the campus of TROY to hold a much touted, three-day ALABAMA ARTS EDUCATION SUMMIT. The theme of the gathering was making essential links between public schools, higher education, communities and more as the significance of arts in education is recognized for the future of American success.

The Alabama Arts Education Summit was sponsored by the Alabama State Council on the Arts, the Alabama Arts Alliance for Arts Education, the Kennedy Center for the Arts, Alabama Arts Education Association and Troy University.
