MISSION
The mission of the Ecology and Field Biology Concentration is to provide the academic and field experiences necessary to prepare students for graduate studies as well as employment opportunities with public or private agencies whose emphasis is in the area of field sciences.

For the Biology electives select 12 hours (three courses with labs) from the three categories to the right. At least one course must be taken from each of the three categories. Select an additional eight hours of advisor-approved BIO or MB courses.

AFTER GRADUATION
Many career options are now available to you in the field sciences. There are jobs available in both the public and private sectors, such as federal and state agencies and industry. This Concentration also provides you with the background for additional graduate studies. A graduate degree in Ecology and Field Biology opens up even more career paths. Admission to graduate school is competitive and is based on a number of factors including undergraduate GPA (Grade Point Average) as well as GRE (Graduate Record Exam) scores.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH
Troy University's Biological and Environmental Sciences Faculty are involved in a variety of research projects. Many of these projects involve undergraduate students. Undergraduate research experience can increase a student's chances for future employment and/or acceptance into graduate schools.

Students are encouraged to gain research experience by participating in research projects of the faculty. For more information on undergraduate research opportunities visit the department's undergraduate research page.

STUDENT CLUBS

  • Tri-Beta, the honor society for Biology
  • Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED), the Society of Pre-Health professions
  • Environmental Club.

RESEARCH FACILITIES

  • Arboretum: contains 75 acres of plant species representative of Southeast Alabama
  • Herbarium: houses specimens of vascular plants, bryophytes, and lichens.
