Amanda Andrews represents AT profession in Washington, D.C.
Lobbying federal legislators is everybody's business, so the National Athletic Trainers’ Association has asked athletic trainers in leadership positions with national, district and state associations to travel to Washington D.C. and make their voices heard. Dr. Amanda Andrews, a certified athletic trainer and assistant professor from Troy University, was among those who traveled to the nation’s capitol to educate members of the U.S. Congress about athletic training, promote NATA’s legislative agenda, and specifically support the passage of the Medicare Access to Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Services Improvement Act (House Resolution 1846). The passage of this act will once again ensure that all therapy services, whether provided in a physician’s office or other setting, meet the requisite Medicare standards for payment.
In its fifth year, the 2008 “Capitol Hill Day” was on Monday, February 25, 2008. More than 265 NATA members from 42 states descended on Congress, and meet with their senators and representatives, and lobby on behalf of certified athletic trainers.
