Rehabilitation Mission Statement
Mission of the Undergraduate Rehabilitation Program
To prepare graduates for entry-level professional employment with programs providing services to individuals with disabilities, and for admission to programs in rehabilitation at the master degree level.
Undergraduate Rehabilitation Program Goals
- Understanding of the social, psychological, economic, physical, medical, and other environmental problems faced by the people who are to be helped in rehabilitation.
- Understanding of the history, philosophy, legal status, and agencies/facilities of the rehabilitation system, and the roles and functions performed by rehabilitation professionals within those agencies/facilities.
- Understanding of the employment placement process, including vocational adjustment and appropriate job placement, the major contributions of community-based rehabilitation programs in facilitating employment, job placement techniques, and independent living outcomes.
- Understanding of the characteristics of helpful communication, and the potential influence of cultural diversity and individual lifestyle choices outcomes.
- Understanding of vocational information, assessment, and problem solving within a multi-disciplinary/multi-agency context, the methods used in rehabilitation to solve consumer problems, and how to utilize available resources to improve consumer access, quality of services, and decision making outcomes.
- Knowledge of ethical principles and standards affecting the delivery of rehabilitation services, and the responsibilities and privileges that accompany the role of the rehabilitation professional outcomes.
- Ability to apply rehabilitation principles, learned via their classroom experience, in a professional work setting at a skill level expected of a beginning level rehabilitation professional.
