Beginning college is a key life transition. Whether you move away from home or live close enough to continue living with family, you will assume greater responsibility, meet a variety of diverse people, and adjust to the academic demands of college life. Our new student orientation, IMPACT, is designed to cater to your every need while beginning college at TROY. You will begin the process of transitioning to your new college environment. At IMPACT you will meet new people, learn how to get involved on campus, and register for fall classes: three essential elements which will foster a successful transition to the TROY family.
This major life transition is also important for parents and/or guardians of the student. Therefore, we offer special parent orientation the first day of each freshman session and during transfer sessions.
Freshman Sessions begin with check-in and group assignment at 8:30 a.m. on the second floor of the Trojan/Adams Center. Two IMPACT Leaders lead each small group of 25-30 students, organized by a group color. Various activities take place during the first day, including English and math placement tests. The first day concludes with an evening meal for students and social activities.
The second day of freshman sessions students will work with an IMPACT staff member to organize a class schedule, learn how to register online, and leave with a fall semester schedule of classes in-hand. Each student should plan to pay one-third of the total bill at the conclusion of IMPACT.
Parents join the freshman session on the first day at lunch followed by an optional campus tour, the campus involvement browse, and a session to plan your class schedule. The formal activities of the first day conclude with a visit the student’s academic department of interest. Evening activities are planned for IMPACT Residents, as well as IMPACT Commuters, to meet additional current TROY students and interact with one another.
Transfer Sessions begin with check-in and group assignment at 9:30 a.m. on the second floor of the Trojan/Adams Center. Two IMPACT Leaders lead each group, organized by group color. Various activities take place throughout the day, including English and/or math placement tests, if necessary. Parents join the transfer sessions at lunch, followed by academic departmental visits. The session ends with organizing a class schedule and registration in the academic department.
