SETTING GOALS
We spend a great deal of time in leadership positions talking about Goal Setting… but do we really understand what a goal is and how it affects our self-motivation.

What is a Goal Statement? A Goal Statement is characterized by the following:
1. It begins with “To” and contains only observable action verbs, such as: establish, create, recruit, increase, sponsor
2. It is a general statement of what the group wants to accomplish within a relatively long time frame
3. It shows a specific result; something you can evaluate at the end as having accomplished (or not)
4. It is realistic, but represents enough of a challenge to make it worth working toward.
5. It is related to the basic purpose of your organization.
What is an Objective Statement?
A goal is made up of Objectives, they begin with “to” also and they are followed by an action verb. They are more specific, less long term, give a date for completion, and describe the “what” and “when” needed to accomplish the goal.
Answers from the above question, “Which of these are Goals?”
